EVENT DETAILS

Nominations open to SUU students, Faculty, and staff to nominate peers who they feel have gone above and beyond in their roles at Southern Utah University. Nominations opened on their mySUUportal.

AWARD NOMINATIONS OPEN

January 2016

Nominees were asked to submit a resume and answer a list of questions pertaining to the requirements for their award. Resumes and answers were stripped of their names and replaced with numbers. Each nominee was judged blindly based on their resume and answers. The top 5 nominees in each category moved on to the live judging.

BLIND JUDGING ROUND

February 2016

Nominees sat down for an interview with a panel of 6 judges in their respective categories. Each interview lasted a maximum of 15 minutes and were timed by room monitors. Each nominee was asked a series of questions and the judges ranked them on a 1-5 scale. Following the interview judges were not allowed to deliberate. 

LIVE JUDGING ROUND

February 2016

Following the Live Judging Round, numbers were tallied by 3 members of the TBird Awards Committee. The winners were recorded and sent to Gem Awards to be placed on Thunderbird Awards. Madison Law contracted the live entertainer for the Awards Ceremony.

March 2016

The 66th Annual Thunderbird Awards Ceremony was held at the Heritage Center Theatre in Cedar City, Utah. Members and dignitaries of SUU and Cedar City came and recognized the award nominees at a reception held in their honor before the Award Ceremony. Light hors'e Devours were served. The Awards Ceremony was loved by all and featured great entertainment. The night was ended with an after party held in the lobby of the Heritage Center Theatre. Dancing, mock-tails and light refreshments were served.

Possibly the most important aspect of event management is thanking everyone who made it possible. Kenten Pope and Madison Law wrote multiple thank you cards to appreciate our gratitude to everyone involved for making the 66th Annual Thunderbird Awards the most successful one yet.

The 66th Annual Thunderbird Awards was an Awards Ceremony held on Saturday, April 16, 2016. The Ceremony recognized SUU students, alumni, faculty and staff along with members from the community of Cedar City that have went above and beyond to make Cedar City and Southern Utah University the best it can be. 16 Awards were up for grabs that evening. Nominees are nominated by students, faculty, and staff of Southern Utah University. All nominees are asked to turn in a resume and answer a questioner for their respective awards. Submissions were then reviewed by a panel of blind judges.  The top five (5) nominees in each category were invited to participate in a live judging panel where scores were tallied and recorded to determine the award recipient. The 66th Annual Thunderbird Awards were planned and organized by the 2016 Southern Utah University Student Activities Board, under the direction of Activities Vice President Kenten Pope.
